It is estimated that 60,000 people in Liverpool have accessed a food bank in the last 12 months. This includes low paid workers, unemployed, disabled and sick . Approximately 25% of food bank users were elderly people and a further 25% were children. This figure doesn’t take account of the thousands of people who didn’t access food banks and borrowed money to feed themselves, or those who went silently hungry until they could next afford food. Additionally, there are thousands of families in the Liverpool City Region living on the verge of food crisis, whose income doesn’t allow for fresh food in their diets.

At Can Cook we believe that good food is a human right and that everybody should have access to fresh food by choice, regardless of their circumstances. Working alongside corporate partners, the Liverpool Echo, celebrity chef Simon Rimmer & the generous public, we’ve distributed over 37,000 free, fresh meals for hungry people in Merseyside. This year we’ll be providing an additional 13,000 for children at risk of Holiday Hunger in Flintshire.
