Share Your Lunch Report – March 2017
Over the past 7 months, we have been running a campaign alongside the Liverpool Echo to address food poverty in the Liverpool City Region through the provision of good, fresh meals to households in crisis.
The Share Your Lunch campaign was set up in response to the rising levels of food poverty across the region, and the lack of good quality, fresh food within the food aid system.
Across the UK, and particularly in Merseyside, households go hungry for long periods of time, often facing crises that lasts for 6, 7, 8 weeks at a time. The majority of food provision available to these families to date has been similar to that across the UK – non-perishable, processed foods, high in saturated fats, salt and sugar and with up to half of the parcel being unusable for those it is intended for.
The Share Your Lunch campaign has raised funds and awareness to make essential, fresh meals available for hungry families. To date, we have distributed over 10,000 fresh meals to families in Liverpool and Knowsley.
